Thursday 4th May 2023 - Voting at a polling station
Unlike in previous years, if you are voting at a polling station you MUST provide a valid method of ID.
If you do not have any of those listed in the link below then you will not be able to vote at a polling station.
Click HERE for a list of recognised voter ID documents remembering that you can you use an expired document as long as the photo is still a good likeness of you .
This does NOT affect those voting by post.
We would all like to thank the residents that took the time to vote for us in the elections held on 4th May 2023.
Some of us were successful in being elected to West Suffolk Council but sadly some were not.
All were elected to serve on Haverhill Town Council.
We continue to work for all regardless of whether you voted for us or not.

Our commitment to the people of Haverhill
We have members that have extensive experience as County, District and Town Councillors representing all the residents of Haverhill.
We want better health and ambulance services and are fighting hard for improvements.
We continue to campaign for more local Police for Haverhill and the reintroduction of a regular Police/Public engagement so that residents’ concerns can be heard.
We want a vibrant and exciting High Street/Queen Street area and will work hard to improve and deliver the Town Centre Masterplan.
We continue to fight for a safe and clean access to our town centre for everybody regardless of ability.
We have previously fought for, and will in the future fight for, our Towns Heritage and built environment.
We will try and influence any future development to make it as best as possible to fit in with the town and its aspirations taking notice of what residents want. It can be a hard fight against ardent developers, but we have had some recent successes.
The new footpath from New Croft to Green Road was installed following discussions between Putting Haverhill First members and the developers of the nearby Great Wilsey Park estate, Redrow, who kindly installed and paid for the path.
Really beneficial for those walking from nearby schools without having to cross Chalkstone Way.
Continue the fight to get potholes fixed on time and to a standard we expect, pavements repaired, and street lighting switched on where necessary.
We will continue to enhance the Town’s railway walk. The section by Howe Road and Manor Road have both been recently resurfaced, following a campaign by Putting Haverhill First members, to ensure nearby developments paid for the upgrade. No more walking on mud.
As part of the Town Council team, we have also been extensively involved in installing new benches on the railway walk enabling those less-abled to rest at convenient places. More benches are to follow.
We will continue to support the great events that the Town Council put on throughout the year.
Our members regularly volunteer and give their time for free – often working long hours before and after an event.
Enhance our parks and green spaces.
Successfully campaigned for a splash pad water park on the Recreation Ground for children that is now open during the summer months.
Support the many things that are being done for young people in the town such as apprenticeships and youth skills, The Zone. Pump Track, etc.
We work hard to support all those with disabilities and debilitating conditions such as dementia and mental health.
Fighting for better means of access to shops/businesses, disabled parking, access to the town centre and elsewhere, toilet facilities, dropped kerbs, clean and level footpaths, and much more.
Fight for better strategic transport links, enhancements and safety upgrades to the A1307 road.
We continue to fight for a sustainable light rail link towards the Cambridge area and improved bus services around the town as well as north to Bury St Edmunds and east to Sudbury.

I have been honoured to serve Haverhill as a Suffolk County Councillor, Borough & Town Councillor for Haverhill East Ward and as Haverhill Mayor for 2018/2019.
I have lived and grown up in Haverhill since 1961 and seen the changes from a small town of 4,000 people, with a railway station, to the present size of nearly 30,000 residents.
Served in the Army with the Royal Engineers and have had a business in Haverhill since 1985. Married with three grown up children who all went to school in Haverhill.
I am absolutely passionate about the town that I live in and want to make it even better for the present & next generations.
Fighting for High Street regeneration, strategic transport links and improved leisure facilities will be amongst my priorities.

John Burns
I have lived in Haverhill for 35 years and previously served as a Suffolk County Councillor and St Edmundsbury Borough & West Suffolk District Councillor.
Had the honour of being elected Haverhill Mayor for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 administration years.
Passionate about ensuring decisions taken that affect the town achieve the best possible outcome and have a reputation for speaking out if we are undervalued much to the chagrin of some. A wrong decision could affect future generations for years to come.
Campaigning for strategic and sustainable transport
links for the town especially ensuring new housing
developments have the infrastructure put in place up front.
With others I care about our Town Centre and the desire to have a thriving economy for business, markets and residents alike whilst providing a clean and safe access for all.
I regularly do voluntary work for the Town Council and at events.

I have devoted most of my working life as an Independent Financial Adviser, now spanning more than 40 years, to helping others make the most of their investments and realise their financial goals.
Over the years, I have worked and held senior positions, with some of the most recognised insurance companies and financial advisory firms gaining numerous qualifications, along the way. I retired in 2018.
I have lived in the area since 1984 and for the last 23 years have been resident in Haverhill itself. I am currently the Mayor of Haverhill for the 2022/23 administration year,
Haverhill has undergone tremendous change but I believe there is still scope for more and I would like to continue to be a part of its future.
I am an active member of Keep Haverhill Tidy and also Keep Haverhill Recycling. In addition, I am a volunteer driver for The Voluntary Network – primarily taking people to and from their hospital appointments. I am also the Chairman of Haverhill & District Twin Town Association (HTTA)
In my spare time, I am a member of the Long Distance Walking Association (LDWA) and have already undertaken various challenges with several more planned for the foreseeable future.

Supporting residents and businesses alike is the key to that goal.

I’m from Haverhill and proud to say so.
I was first elected 4 years ago at the age of 23, the youngest Councillor in West Suffolk. It’s been an honour to represent you all and the town I’m proud to call home.
I shan’t deny that being a Councillor has not been hard work. It’s been an eye opener for me as to how complicated Councils are and that even simple wins can sometimes feel difficult to achieve. But I’ve always tried my best to support you all, as residents.
It’s been great to meet so many of you, and we’ve had plenty of wins along the way. From stopping Paske Avenue garages being demolished, to the opening of a Splash Pad on the Rec. Plus all the other planning applications, highway issues, homelessness, anti-social behaviour, good causes and events and much more that I’ve worked on and supported you all with.
I’ve thought long and hard about whether to stand again, but I want to keep fighting for Haverhill. There’s always more to do!
I was raised and educated in the town and now continue to live here with my wife.
I also work locally in the town and am the Chair of the Haverhill History Group.
I have energy and drive and have been volunteering in my spare time setting up and stewarding at the fantastic events we put on as a town.
